About the Event

This year’s Annual General Meeting of the AAA will take place at 6pm (London time) on Thursday 26 September at the Embassy of the Republic of Albania, 33 St George's Dr, Pimlico, London SW1V 4DG. We are once again grateful to HE Ambassador Uran Ferizi for hosting us.

Officers of the Association will give reports and members will have the opportunity to share comments and suggestions about the AAA and its activities.

Elections will be taking place for membership of the Executive Committee. Only paid-up members of the Association may participate in the election. Executive Committee Members are elected for a period of 3 years.

As stated in the Constitution, any member of the Association may nominate themselves or any other member for election. Seconders should be indicated at the time of nomination. Candidates for election should be nominated by email not less than 14 days before the AGM . Nominations should therefore be received by Thursday 12th September, at the Association’s e-mail address, angloalbanian@gmail.com

Following the AGM, at approximately 7pm, we are pleased to host the launch of Adam Yamey's new book "An Albanian in India". Refreshments will be available after the meeting.

"An Albanian in India: the Life and Adventures of Khwaja Safar" describes the adventurous life of an Albanian who travelled to Gujarat in the west of India during the first half of the 16th century, and settled there. In India, he became an important advisor to the Sultan of Gujarat and one of his most prominent military leaders. He spent much of his time combatting the Portuguese, who were invading the country and monopolising trade in the Indian Ocean. Apart from Mother Teresa, he was the only Albanian known to have made a significant impact on the history of the Indian subcontinent. Adam's illustrated book takes the reader back in time and also to places in today's India that are associated with the Albanian protagonist.

Adam will give a presentation about his book, of which copies will be available for sale at a cost of £5. This is a discount price for AAA members as the usual retail price is £6.99.

Adam Yamey has been interested in Albania since the mid 1960s. He first visited Albania in 1984, soon after qualifying as a dental surgeon. He has already published three books about Albania and the Albanians. Adam is a member of the Executive Board of the AAA.

Please RSVP to attend the AGM and the book launch in person as places at the Embassy are limited.

Both the AGM and the Book Launch can also be joined remotely on Zoom via this link: https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83621848450?pwd=ShICmL1rSZNyIL4dhc5FVBtbirilbT.1

Please note that while the book launch is open to anyone, the AGM is for AAA members only.

We look forward to seeing you at the event.

Best wishes,

Saida Llabuti & Carolyn Perry
