‘The Major of the Dead Army’ by Richard Bone MBE

Dear AAA Members,

We are pleased to invite you to our first event of 2025, an illustrated talk by Richard Bone MBE ‘The Major of the Dead Army’: The McIntosh grave registration mission to Albania 1945 and the lost graves of British Servicemen.

While there are 48 headstones in Tirana Park Memorial cemetery, they do not tell the whole story. There are at least another 81 British Servicemen who died as a result of action in Albania in WW2, many of whom lie in unmarked graves across the country or in its surrounding waters. While these men are commemorated on memorials in Malta, Egypt and elsewhere, their connection to Albania has almost entirely been lost to history.
