About the Event
Dear AAA Members, friends
Our first event of 2022 is Robin Hanbury-Tenison's talk about the 2007 journey which he and his wife Louella made on horseback from Thethi in the North of Albania down to the southern border with Greece. The talk will take place on 26 January, starting at 7pm UK time. Robin is well known as an explorer and horses are his favourite means of conveyance. Interviewed by the Royal Geographical Society, he said that with a rucksack on your back, you see nothing but your feet, in a car you are insulated from the real world; but "on a horse, you have an intelligent animal doing all of the work and most of the thinking, leaving you free to look and listen, to communicate with those you meet".
So this talk is an ideal introduction to Albania, this hitherto isolated and enigmatic country, which is now a candidate to join the EU. It is apt that we are bringing it to you now as the UK and Albania begin to celebrate 100 years of diplomatic relations. We are glad to have with us via Zoom from Tirana, our Ambassador to Albania, Alastair King-Smith, who will tell us more about the Centenary.
Because of the pandemic, we are unable to bring this event to you face-to-face. If you wish to attend via Zoom, please register for the event. You will then receive an e-mail with the Zoom link, through which you will be able to join the talk.
Best wishes,
Stephen
